Dr Matt Carter - Founder and Managing Director

Matt has spent almost twenty years advising political parties and leaders, businesses and CEOs on campaign strategy and messaging, with a particular focus on corporate communications, reputation management, politics and polling. 

Matt set up campaigns and research firm Message House in 2013. Previously, he was UK CEO of international PR firm Burson-Marsteller where he helped clients to build effective global communications’ campaigns and stakeholder engagement. He also ran the EMEA office of Penn, Schoen & Berland, the global research firm.

Matt has also worked at the most senior level in politics as General Secretary of the Labour Party.  He was responsible for the day-to-day management of the political campaigns and organisation of the party and was in charge in the period running up to and including the 2005 General Election.

Rachel Lloyd - Director

With over fifteen years’ experience in strategy and research, Rachel has worked with clients on corporate communications, brand strategy and reputation management. Previously, Rachel was Director at Penn, Schoen & Berland, where she helped clients to develop global communications strategies, underpinned by qualitative and quantitative research. As a former WPP Fellow, Rachel has a strong understanding of the inter-disciplinary nature of communications and has worked in the US, Europe and the UK. She has recently been approved as a Unilever Lead Researcher and Moderator.

Kelly Pinder (nee Douglas) - Director

Kelly has used research to develop winning campaigns and business change programmes for global companies in fast paced settings for over ten years. She previously spent 3 years at the global engineering consultancy Atkins, where she led the internal engagement area of their UK innovation strategy. Prior to this, she was Senior Director at Penn, Schoen & Berland, where she helped clients develop strategies related to their corporate social responsibility, product launches, crisis management and policy development.

Jo Reid - Director

Jo joined Message House in June 2017 as a Director. She was previously a freelance brand consultant and qualitative researcher and prior to that Planning Director at WCRS/Engine and a Board Account Planner at Lowe.

As a brand consultant Jo has helped to develop brand propositions and identities, designed and implemented brand engagement programmes, advised on marketing and communication strategies and helped generate insights around audiences and customers. As a qualitative researcher Jo has lots of experience of insight development, stakeholder and employee research, communication optimisation and customer satisfaction audits. Previous clients include Bupa, the Barbican and Weatherbys.

David Power - Research Manager

David is a Research Manager at Message House. Since joining the team, he has worked across a wide array of sectors using both qualitative and quantitative techniques to help clients develop their brand and communications strategies. Prior to joining he worked for Verve, a market research company where he was responsible for maintaining quality procedures as well as assisting with the set-up and management of large international research panels. Before Verve, David worked for Dr Elaine Murray MSP where he was Constituency Office Assistant and with Russell Brown MP as a Parliamentary Intern. David has a degree in History and Politics from the University of Glasgow.

Ben O’Donnell – Senior Research Executive

Ben is a Senior Research Executive at Message House. With Message House, Ben has worked on a wide range of projects in a number of sectors using quantitative and qualitative research. Prior to joining Message House, he worked in public affairs in Brussels as a policy trainee for the European Association for Bioindustries and as government and public affairs intern for Nike. Ben holds a bachelor’s degree in Politics & International Relations and a master’s degree in Political Strategy and Communication from the University of Kent, where he studied both quantitative and qualitative research methods, and political communication.

Andrew Chalk - Research Executive

Andrew joined the team as a Research Executive in January 2018. He holds a master’s degree in history from the University of Exeter, where he specialised in modern British political history, imperialism, and globalisation. While at university, he studied qualitative and quantitative research methods and worked in the heritage sector, crafting and delivering events for a museum. Before joining Message House, Andrew also taught English as a foreign language and worked in primary and secondary education.
