Dr Matt Carter - Founder and Managing Director
Matt has spent almost twenty years advising political parties and leaders, businesses and CEOs on campaign strategy and messaging, with a particular focus on corporate communications, reputation management, politics and polling.
Matt set up campaigns and research firm Message House in 2013. Previously, he was UK CEO of international PR firm Burson-Marsteller where he helped clients to build effective global communications’ campaigns and stakeholder engagement. He also ran the EMEA office of Penn, Schoen & Berland, the global research firm.
Matt has also worked at the most senior level in politics as General Secretary of the Labour Party. He was responsible for the day-to-day management of the political campaigns and organisation of the party and was in charge in the period running up to and including the 2005 General Election.
Rachel Lloyd - Director
Over her 20 years working in strategy and research, Rachel has supported a diverse range of clients with their corporate communications, branding and messaging. Rachel is a Unilever approved lead moderator and researcher, and has particular expertise in qualitative research, ethnography and workshop facilitation.
Rachel leads Message House’s thought leadership in the area of longevity. Her specific focus is on language and she helps clients understand how they can communicate with more impact in this area. Her ambition is to support organisations adapt and respond to the communications opportunities of longevity.
Previously, Rachel was Director at Penn, Schoen & Berland, where she advised clients in the development of global communications strategies, underpinned by qualitative and quantitative research. As a former WPP Fellow, Rachel has a strong understanding of the inter-disciplinary nature of communications and has extensive international experience having lived and worked in the US, Europe and the UK. She has a First Class Degree in Politics and Parliamentary Studies from the University of Leeds and has gained first hand political experience in placements in 10 Downing Street and the US Congress.
Rachel is on the Board of the Tate Gallery Member’s Council and is also a Board Member of Hebrides Ensemble, a contemporary classical Scottish music group.
Kelly Pinder (née Douglas) - Director
Kelly has used research to develop winning campaigns, innovation, and business change programmes for global companies in fast paced settings for nearly fifteen years. She’s been a Director at Message House since January 2016 and she runs a range of strategic research projects covering reputation management, internal communications and culture change.
Previously, Kelly spent three years at the global engineering consultancy Atkins, where she led the internal engagement area of their UK innovation strategy. Prior to this, she was Senior Director at Penn, Schoen & Berland, where she helped clients develop strategies related to their corporate social responsibility, stakeholder engagement, product launches, crisis management and policy development.
Ben O’Donnell – Research Manager
Ben is a Research Manager at Message House. With Message House, Ben has worked on a wide range of projects in a number of sectors using quantitative and qualitative research to inform client’s communications. Prior to joining Message House, he worked in public affairs in Brussels as a policy trainee for the European Association for Bioindustries and as government and public affairs intern for Nike. Ben holds a bachelor’s degree in Politics & International Relations and a master’s degree in Political Strategy and Communication from the University of Kent.
Alicia Exworthy - Research Manager
Alicia is a Research Manager at Message House, joining in August 2019. Prior to this, Alicia worked for recruitment communications agency Talent Works International where she used both qualitative and quantitative research methods to help inform client’s employer branding strategies. Alicia has a BA in Human Geography from the University of Portsmouth.
Morgan Williams – Research Executive
Morgan joined Message House as a Research Executive in April 2019. Prior to joining Message House, she taught English in public elementary schools in Japan as a JET programme participant. Morgan has a MSc in Global Economic Governance and Policy from SOAS University of London and a BA in Economics and Japanese from the University of Leeds.
Ben Woodroof - Research Executive
Ben joined Message House as a Research Executive in July 2019. Previously, he interned at WaterAid aiding the corporate partnerships team in a variety of research and administrative tasks. Ben has an MA in International Political Economy from King’s College London and a BA in PPE from Swansea University.
